1. Pick a firm start date, write it down, and commit
It is easy to keep pushing back the day you trade the king cake for kale, and cocktails for coconut water. By picking an exact day and marking it down somewhere noticeable, there is no avoiding it if you have that constant reminder in front of you.
2. ease your way into the change
If you have spent all of Carnival pushing your clean eating and workouts to the back burner, we don't expect a complete 360 right away - change is a process. Make small changes each day to get back into whatever defines your personal, healthy lifestyle. Remember, it is all up to you!
Ok pause, lets be real for a second... If you live in New Orleans, New Year's resolutions are not exactly a priority with Carnival season quite literally around the corner. With the immediate New Year and onslaught of Carnival - AKA the glorious, magical time filled with more king cake, parades, and drinking than we can fathom - revelry definitely takes precedent over resolutions. But who ever said that resolutions had to be reserved just for the New Year?!
Use the end of the celebratory time that Mardi Gras brings to retox before you detox. We are pretty lucky we get to use the end of Carnival as the best excuse ever to give those resolutions a second try with the start of Lent! Lent gives that little extra push to do away with the bad, in with the good, and take some time for self-reflection. Whether you're observant of Lent or not, allow the end of Carnival to serve as your personal reset button. Trust us, we know it is is easier said than done, especially in a city in which it seems, somehow, the celebrations never stop. So let us help guide you with some tips and suggestions to start getting back on track following those post Mardi struggles.
3. try something new
Resolutions do not have to be boring! If you find yourself becoming tired of eating healthy, working out frequently, and taking those extra steps to take care of your body, then switch it up! Find a new favorite spot for healthy eats, switch up your workout routine by trying a new class, or splurge on that wellness treatment you've been fan girling over. Whatever does the trick, making your resolutions a treat rather than a chore can make a huge difference in achieving your goals.
4. remember, you get out what you put in
Resolutions only result in change if you commit 100% of yourself to the change you want to see. Don't overwhelm yourself with the pressure of needing to be immediately better or see improvements today because that will all come with time. Focus on being the best version of you possible - to seek change in a healthy and positive way. You already have it inside of you, sometimes it just needs some extra motivation to shine through. Let this resolution reboot be a time where you really recommit to yourself because are always worth it!
