Spices have been used to heal for thousands of years, and many people believe that every cure we need for the body comes straight from our earth. 

Recent studies have examined the relationship between spices, their healing properties, and the prevention of certain diseases. Based on our own research and reading, here are five of our favorites... 

 

 


TUMERIC

WHY IT'S GOOD FOR YOU:

This powerful anti-inflammatory is believed to lower the risk of heart diseases, aid in the prevention of certain cancers, and ward off diseases of the brain–specifically Alzheimer's. 

USE IT FOR:

  • Heartburn
  • Upset stomach
  • Acne 
  • Joint pain & arthritis 

GINGER

WHY IT'S GOOD FOR YOU:

Widely known as a gastrointestinal "cure-all," ginger (in most any form) is something to try before you reach from the TUMS or Pepto.  

USE IT FOR:

  • Motion sickness
  • Nausea
  • Digestive problems 
  • Coughs
  • Colds 
 

CINNAMON

WHY IT'S GOOD FOR YOU:

Recent studies have shown cinnamon to be extremely beneficial for blood sugar and the prevention of diabetes. It's also high in antioxidants and has antimicrobial properties.  

USE IT FOR:

  • Regulating & reducing blood sugar levels
  • Natural sweetness
  • Bad breath 

CURRY

WHY IT'S GOOD FOR YOU:

A spice blend to add during flu season, curry helps boost the immune system. Because the mixture contains turmeric, it also acts as an anti-inflammatory. 

USE IT FOR:

  • Acne & eczema
  • Digestive aid
  • Warding off bacterial infections
 

CAYENNE

WHY IT'S GOOD FOR YOU:

Cayenne improves blood flow and circulation, stimulates the sinuses, and acts as an appetite suppressant. Be careful with this spice...it has a big kick! 

USE IT FOR:

  • Sore throat
  • Stuffy nose
  • Fighting cravings
